Perhaps the representations of violence and use of extreme sound and imagery in this installation will just earn me the title of "edgelord" for many, and leave other people confused or offended. If it gets one person to feel a little more motivated to orient their work or thoughts toward a re-ordering of society toward ecological harmony and away from the profit motive, I will consider it a success. Even if a little later in the day, people decide they need to take a hike or spend time in a garden because they feel overwhelmed or boxed in, that's what I want. I have no way of measuring these results, unfortunately. Of course, I'd rather start seeing encampments of people demanding affordable housing, growing food, and creating mutual aid groups on campus tomorrow. But we are tinkering with the design of very sophisticated social conditioning infrastructure that's been developed over many, many decades here. Getting it right might take a fair bit of tweaking. There are also police. Ugh. We'll have to think of how to handle them. Hopefully the goats at "the farm" produce enough milk to cut the pepper spray spice!
